BMC Medical Manufacturing has been recognized by Medtech Business Review Magazine as the exclusive recipient of “Medical Device Design and Development Company of the Year 2025,” based on our proprietary methodology, reflecting its position in the industry. This profile has been developed by the Medtech Business Review research and editorial team based on insights from an interview with Mario Alberto Peña, General Manager.
Mario Alberto Peña, General ManagerThe road to launching a medical device is anything but smooth. Founders and inventors undertaking this journey to market need to overcome a gauntlet of regulations and design roadblocks while staying true to the industry’s stringent safety standards. The process can quickly overwhelm MedTech innovators, especially startups who are new on the block.
BMC Medical Manufacturing transforms their visionary healthcare ideas into life-saving realities with unmatched precision and reliability.
It empowers medical device companies with scalable, cutting-edge manufacturing solutions that do not compromise quality. From startups to industry leaders, those shaping the future of healthcare rely on BMC to bring their life-changing innovations to market with speed, accuracy and confidence.
Founded with a vision to bring U.S.-level quality and consistency to medical device manufacturing in Mexico, BMC took bold steps to establish high standards from the get-go.
“In Mexico, we were pioneers in rigorous research and development, precise assembly, controlled cleanroom environments, and sterilization processes”, says Mario Alberto Peña, general manager at BMC. “Over time, our expertise gained recognition and started attracting U.S. clients, particularly startups looking for cost-effective, high-quality manufacturing partners.”
True Vertical Integration
Unlike many contract manufacturers that handle only specific aspects of production, BMC is a true vertically-integrated company that oversees the entire lifecycle of a medical device. Its in-house capabilities extend across the board, including analytical investigation, mechanical testing, R&D-driven prototyping and validation, GMP certification processes and manufacturing and distribution.
Clients partnering with BMC benefit from a seamless transition from concept to market, with optimized costs and accelerated timelines. By keeping operations in-house and minimizing reliance on third parties, the company ensures stringent quality control, enhanced efficiency and adherence to the highest industry standards.
Solving Real World Problems
Numerous success stories exemplify BMC’s ability to tackle complex challenges. One notable example involved assisting a client in developing an advanced neurovascular device that required microscopic precision. The production process included intricate micro-assemblies, with operators undergoing an intensive eight-month training program before being certified to work on the final product.
This rigorous approach, combined with BMC’s regulatory expertise, enabled the successful delivery of an implantable device with exceptional precision and reliability. The production line is ISO 13485 certified and fully registered with COFEPRIS (Mexico) and the FDA (USA), with ANVISA (Brazil) registration currently underway — reinforcing BMC’s commitment to regulatory excellence across Latin America.
Another successful incident involved a U.S.-based company struggling with a complex dual-balloon venous seclusion catheter’s design and regulatory approval. Upon analyzing the product, BMC’s engineering team determined that the original design was unbuildable at scale while maintaining the quality standards required for FDA clearance. The research and development team quickly redesigned the device to ensure manufacturing scalability and FDA approval requirements. The redesign process required extensive testing and validation, as well as collaboration with the client to ensure that the final version aligned with their original vision. In a recent milestone, the newly optimized device received FDA 510(k) certification, marking a significant achievement for both BMC and its client.
Empowered Teams Drive Customer Success
Beyond technical excellence, BMC focuses quite strongly on company culture and employee growth. The company believes that an empowered team translates into better service for clients. Employees are provided with the necessary tools to hone their craft. This continuous investment in workforce, and growth-focused mindset culminates into an environment where efficiency and excellence are second nature. The result – a cohesive, highly-motivated team focused on delivering quality products that fit client requirements.
“Success starts with people. When our team thrives, our clients benefit. And together, we create a culture of trust, partnership and lasting growth,” says Peña.
Over the recent years, BMC has experienced rapid growth and has expanded from a 20-person operation to a team of over 50 professionals in just five years. Its roadmap for the next 18 months includes continued expansion within Latin America, a stronger footprint in the U.S. and Europe, and further advancements in certification and compliance capabilities.
Keeping Pace with a Growing Industry
BMC’s leaders recognize that staying ahead of the curve directly pays out in continuous growth. As such, BMC’s team is on a constant search for new ways to enhance capabilities and bring more value to clients. New manufacturing methods, improved testing protocols and expanded regulatory certifications — every possible growth avenue is in the cards to improve the design, functionality and safety of medical devices. The company has already invested heavily in research and development initiatives to ensure a position at the industry’s bleeding edge.
The goal is to become the leading medical device solution provider in Latin America while upholding all the standards of product excellence. As BMC continues to scale, core values of precision, efficiency and customer satisfaction remain as priorities. The company combines deep manufacturing expertise with a strategic vision, ensuring clients achieve both technical precision and long-term growth.
Beyond Nearshoring: A Smarter, More Strategic Approach
While cost-efficiency remains a vital factor in today’s medical device landscape, the real strength of BMC’s model lies in its ability to combine proximity, precision, and performance into a single strategic offering. This approach — aligned with what many now call next-shoring — prioritizes manufacturing closer to demand, enabled by advanced capabilities and real-time collaboration.
With escalating regulatory demands and complex manufacturing requirements, more companies are seeking partners who can deliver both speed and certainty — without sacrificing quality.
BMC’s location in Monterrey, Mexico, paired with its ISO-certified and FDA registered capabilities, make it the ideal partner for companies looking to strengthen their supply chains, streamline communication, and accelerate time-to-market. Whether launching a novel device or scaling production, clients choose BMC not just for the cost advantages, but for the strategic edge that comes from a fully integrated, innovation-driven partnership.
